DURHAM COUNTY FA
TROPHY PRELIMINARY ROUND
This was a frustrating afternoon for Wheatley Hill who trailed 2-1
within 10 minutes before 2 goals from Fred Jackson and Brett Carr. Numerous
amounts of chances and possession were
wasted throughout the game but Wheatley Hill eventually came through.
SHILDON RESERVES 4 V 0 DURHAM EMMANUEL CHURCH
Shildon returned to form with a 4 goal win against Emanuelle
church. First half goals from Stephen Clifford and Jack Carr gave the home team
a boost .Jack scored two more to complete his hatrick for the mercurial wide
man. The game was played in a sporting manner and well refereed by Marc Kartoroz.
CHESTER-LE-STREET TOWN WHITEHILL 5 V 0 BIRTLEY ST.JOSEPHS
Whitehill ended up with a comfortable 5-0 home win to Northern
Alliance League Birtley St Josephs. In a goalless first half, Whitehill shaded
play but were not clinical enough in front of goal, but the Birtley keeper
still pulled off a couple of great saves to keep it 0-0 at half time. The
second half saw Whitehill step it up a pace and deservedly took the lead on 55
mins when good work involving Graeme Embleton and Tony Healer saw Stephen Wood
fire in for 1-0. It was 2-0 six mins later when Craig Mickle set up Adam
Quigley to finish well.
Adam Quigley was quickly denied a second on 65 mins but the keeper once again
saved well with his legs to put the ball out for a corner kick. The goal of the
game came 2 mins later when Greame Embleton hit a tremendous volley from 20
yards into the top corner for 3-0. Whitehill
were well on top now and Stephen Wood made it 4-0 when he was first to react to
a Craig Mickle shot and he slotted in the rebound on 71 mins. Whitehill went
nap ten mins later when Adam Quigley broke away and scored to make it 5-0.
Birtley had their best chance of the game late on when the ball was headed wide
at the far post, but it is Whitehill who march into the next round.
The score line does not do justice to a fabulous battling
performance by Brandon against high flying Silksworth of the Wearside league..
With only nine players declaring themselves fit and available Brandon had to
rely on both coaches playing to make up the eleven. A goal down after seven
minutes Brandon were in real trouble when captain Shaun Wilson and defender
Michael Heckles were injured in the first 20 mins and were unable to continue
leaving Brandon with only nine players on the pitch. Despite this setback
Brandon battled for everything and Cameron Annison was unlucky to see a shot
slide just wide of the Silksworth post. Half time came with Silksworth still
holding the one goal advantage. In the second half Silksworth were awarded a
penalty, converted to make the score 2 - 0 until 80 mins when the Brandon
simply ran out of legs and they conceded four goals in the last ten minutes.
Man of the match for Silksworth was Daniel Martin and for Brandon was the whole
team.
EBCHESTER CONSETT RESERVES 1 V 3 SEDGEFIELD NETPark
In a close encounter between the two sides it was Sedgefield who
opened the scoring. A direct ball forward and Ebchester didn't clear their
lines before a good finish over the goalkeeper gave Sedgefield the lead.
Ebchester responded within ten minutes, some neat play got Dan Reed one on one
with the goalkeeper and he finished well to level the game. Ebchester then had
multiple chances to take the lead but were unable to find the finish at the end
of some good play. It was Sedgefield who got the next goal, Ebchester
struggling to clear their lines again and Sedgefield didn't waste the chance.
Half Time it was 2-1 to the away team. The second half neither team took the
game to the other, with not many chances to talk about it was Sedgefield who
got the crucial 4th goal, a good finish leaving the keeper with no chance.
Ebchester pushed to get back into the game but were unable to find the finish
at the end. Sedgefield edged a close game 3-1.
HARTLEPOOL FC
RESERVES 1 V 5 GATESHEAD RUTHERFORD

poor defending. They pulled on back shortly after to give a bit of hope but the
league difference between the two teams showed as Gateshead went into the break
4-1 up. Hartlepool put up a better fight in the second half but conceded again
5 minutes from the end.
