SATURDAY JANUARY 24TH 2015

SHERBURN VILLAGE WMC FC 3V 4 MURTON AFC
On a very heavy pitch both teams were in for a battle. First chance landed to Sherburn on 10 mins a cross from the left found Joe Simpson whose header was well saved by Murtons keeper. A shot from Sherburn’s Gaz Dodds on 18 from 10yds skimmed Murtons post. Murton went down to 10 men on 24 when no 4 Shaun O’Brien was sent off strait red. Sherburn now had the advantage and piled the pressure on. 32 mins saw a belter of a shot by Sherburn’s Peter Ryder cleared off the line. 40 mins a header from Sherburn’s Nicky Marley skimmed the bar. Murton then took their first chance of the half on 42 when a long ball landed to Haydon Pace who slotted past the keeper 1-0. Sherburn 2 mins later levelled when Nicky Marley slammed the ball home from 10 yds h/t 1-1. Second half saw Murton take the lead on 52 when a free kick from the left landed at Mark Ruddock’s feet who took it well and made it 2-1. 6 mins later Murton made it 3-1 with a well taken goal by Anth Cowie. Murton were battling for every ball Sherburn just couldn't get it together. Murton could have finished it off on 64 but a great save by Sherburn’s keeper Lee Abbott kept them in the game. Sherburn started to get it together and on 70 mins Gaz Dodds clipped his header over the keeper to make it 3-2. Murton were defending well and battling hard. But on 80 mins Sherburn levelled with a great goal from Joe Simpson 3-3. What a great game of football was being played by both teams. You would not have thought Murton were down to 10 men they worked and worked as Sherburn had chance after chance to try to take the lead. On 85 mins a slip by Sherburn defender Andrew Chester let Murtons Haydon Pace through to score his 2nd and Murtons 4th . Sherburn put pressure on Murton for the remainder of the game but Murton saw it out to win 4-3. A great game of football by both teams and well done to Murton.

SHILDON RESERVES 5 V 2 EBCHESTER CONSETT RESERVES
The home team ran out 5 2 winners against a very competitive Ebchester team. The away team scored first through Daniel reed and were only in front for 5 minutes before Shildon equalised through man of the match Joe Kerry. Ebchester broke through again though and Stephen Agnew finished well. Stephen Clifford got the home team level and that was the end of the scoring in the first half. The home team then took control in the second half and goals from Clifford, Michael Webster and James Huntley saw the home team complete a good performance. Shildons big squad was the main difference between the 2 teams. Star for Ebchester was Daniel reed.

DCFA TROPHY SEMI FINAL

WHICKHAM SPORTING CLUB 6 V 2 SEDGEFIELD NETPark
NETPark started the brighter team and should have been a goal or two up in the first 15mins causing problems from free kicks and numerous corners, also a big shout for a hand ball that went unnoticed. Then on 20mins the game changed with James Duddin losing control of the ball in his penalty box he then made a tackle catching the Whickham striker a nailed on penalty but the Referee decided it was a 'two footed' tackle and sent James off!!! The Referee had set his marker so handed out yellow cards to both teams as if he was on commission, this game didn't have one bad tackle or any hassle all game. Anyway back to the game and after a few more goals it was 2-2 at half-time. Whickham scored a well worked goal on 55mins to take the lead 3-2 and 5mins later were gifted a fourth 4-2. NETPark were dead and buried they gave a good battle for the next 20mins but two late goals put Whickham into the final, F/T 6-2
Good luck to Whickham in the final in what will be a tough game v Sunderland Silksworth

LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP ROUND 3

HYLTON SC 0 V 5 COUNDON & LEEHOLME YOUTH FC
This quarter final fixture was indeed going to be a must win for both teams as Hylton hold the advantage for the first win earlier in the league although Hylton’s form has not been the best and a much needed confidence boost was a must. Coundon started the brightest with some killer balls into the pockets behind the Hylton full backs and were soon 1-0 up, Hylton’s left back fell asleep and with a great ball the winger squared it to make it 1-0.  Hylton were still hopeful and pressed Coundon but that long ball caused Hylton real problems and just before half time made it 2-0 with a mountain to climb for the Hylton boys.  The 2nd half Hylton tried hard but couldn't deal with the Coundon pressure and 2 minutes in the third was tapped home. Mistakes at the back didn’t help Hylton’s cause today but couldn’t find the net at the other end either. Coundon ran out 5-0 winners but a gallant effort from a weakened Hylton team low on confidence. Well done Coundon and good luck in the latter stages, I believe we lost to the winners of this trophy today.

HORSLEY HILL FC 4 V 4 HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES (Horsley Hill won 6-5 on Penalties)
BATTLE OF THE HILL. Horsley Hill progressed to their second semi final in successive weeks. The Hill went into a two goal lead courtesy of in form striker Levi Collins and MoM Frankie Hucks. However, a very good and determined Hartlepool side drew level before the break with two goals from an excellent Carl Sullivan. The second half continued with the same intensity, however, Adam Bell put the Hill back into the lead with a superb 20yd strike. Hartlepool soon equalised through Larkin after some good play. The Hill went down to 10men after a reckless challenge from Collins. Surprisingly the ten men took the lead with 10mins to go through the impressive Adam Bell. However with minutes to go Hartlepool levelled the game through their MoM Sullivan, taking the game into extra time. The extra time period saw both teams level with nothing between them. Again penalties saw both sides excel, however the Hill finally progressed winning 7 - 6. Both sides came together after the final whistle to congratulate each other in what was a gruelling but fairly competitive game. Both managers agreed that the game was a credit to the league and worthy of the final

BISHOP AUCKLAND RESERVES 2 V 3 WHEATLEY HILL WMC FC (After Extra Time)
The quarter final of the League Challenge cup was an entertaining affair, with both teams very competitive. The visitors took the lead after a free kick was stunningly saved by Mark Connell; only for it to hit the post and trickle in. The home side rallied and scored two in quick success after brilliant play from Jordan Maughan. His powerful run down the left side allowed Alex Cantwell to tap in before Maughan himself was released and perfectly finished first time from 18 yards. The second half was entertaining with both sides creating chances and both goal keepers in good form. Wheatley hill forced extra time with a goal midway through the half, but really the home side should have sealed their place with a succession of chances. Extra time was an edgy affair, but Wheatley hill booked their semi final place with a great shot on the turn on the 118 minute.

SATURDAY JANUARY 17TH 2015

BISHOP AUCKLAND RESERVES 2 V 3 WHEATLEY HILL WMC FC
Today saw a more than feisty encounter between these two teams. With strong challenges from the start. The home side took the lead after a well struck free kick from Bobby Gibson was tipped onto the bar for Liam Bain to tidy up from close range. The first half remained close and half time ended at 1-0. The second half the temperament from both teams increased and became even more so when an equalizer came Wheatley Hills way via a possible hand ball, this was still well taken by Wheatley Hill and soon they added to their tally to take the lead and then again to make it 3-1. There was a late rally from Bishop as a sharp quick strike from Lewis Dunn eventually crossed the line after the keeper got a touch. The visiting team's MOM was easily the goal keeper after some quality saves kept Bishop at bay. Strong team performance from Bishop today however it was a disappointing day as the officials never seemed in control of the game which over 90 mins only got worse. We look forward to the Cup game with Wheatley Hill next week and aim to reverse the score line.

CLEM SMITH BOWL ROUND 3

HORSLEY HILL FC 4 V 1 SHILDON RESERVES
Horsley Hill FC sailed into the semi final of the Clem Smith Trophy with an emphatic win against a very good Shildon side. The Hill took the lead after 32mins through Frankie Hucks, after some good interchangeable play through midfield. The Hill extended their lead after half time through Centre forward Levi Collins. Although Shildon reduced the deficit through Clifford, the Hill went on to secure their semi final place through goals from Adam Bell and another from star man Levi Collins

HYLTON SC 2 V 6 HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES
Hylton played with confidence after going down 1-0 to a young and hungry Hartlepool team, Hylton found themselves 2-1 up but Hartlepool’s fitness showed in the end winning 6-2 on the day. Well done Hartlepool and good luck in the next round of the competition.

COUNDON & LEEHOLME YOUTH FC 10 V 0 FERRYHILL TOWN
The game kicked off with Coundon having most possession. Coundon took the lead on twenty one minutes with a goal from Mark Wood. Another goal was scored after twenty four minutes followed by another goal by Darren Simpson. Stevie Johnson scored for Coundon one minute later. Another goal by Stevie Johnson gave Coundon a 5-0 lead at half time. Darren Simpson scored again after thirteen minutes. Steve Johnson scored again to give him is hat trick. Mark Wood scored his second goal 21minutes of the second half. Kurtz Mathews scored Coundons next goal. Coundon then had a penalty saved but Carl Raine who had come on as a sub scored another goal for Coundon giving them a 10-0 victory.

FERRYHILL TOWN 1 V 6 HORSLEY HILL FC
Ferryhill 1- 6 Horsley Hill. Horsley Hill dominated whole game deserved all three points creating good chances scoring 6 good built up goals Ferryhill man of match was Luke Brown goal scorer was number 9 Shane Snaith with a 35 yards screamer with a wonderful strike lobbing the keeper leaving him flapping like a bitdman

SHERBURN VILLAGE WMC FC 1 V 3 SHILDON RESERVES
Very windy conditions were going to make it very difficult for both teams. On 5 mins Sherburn had the first chance which fell to striker Nicky Marley whose close range shot was saved by the keeper. 5 mins later Marley was brought down in the box looked a certain penalty but referee Armstrong thought otherwise. Both teams were putting on a great show of football despite the conditions. A header Marley again on 44 hit the bar. Half time 0-0. Shildon started the second half the better team and on 55 mins Shildons Jack Carr put them ahead with a well taken goal 1-0. A penalty decision 10 mins later after the ball struck Sherburn's defender Andrew Chester on the arm was given for Shildons Andrew Bartle to strike home 2-0. A ball on 72 mins by Sherburn's Omar Mustafa found Nicky Marley who flicked on to Gaz Dodds to strike home from 20 yds. A goal by Shildons no 9 Steve Clifford sealed the game on 80 mins. The game ended 3-1 to Shildon.

HYLTON SC 4 V 1 BRANDON UNITED RESERVES
Hylton entertained a hard working Brandon Utd reserves team at the Billy hardy complex. Gavin Ackroyd was back into the heart of the defence after a long layoff and with fellow new boy Jake Tyrell straight into the squad, Hylton were still missing 5 first team members but still confident of the 3 points. Hylton started the brightest with Golightly and Herron on the wing giving Brandon’s defence a torrid time, it wasn’t long before Catchiside dribbled on the edge of the box shot and deflected off the defender 1-0 Catchiside. Brandon tried to pass the ball about but Hylton worked well closing them down, Hylton looked comfortable passing but with no real conviction and the forwards being frustrated by feeding on scraps, a defensive error from Hylton gave Brandon a shot at goal and he made no mistake 1-1. Hylton’s management team were not happy and changes were imminent, on came woody and with his pace and trickery the game saw him square to Ghandi (hope) to make it 2-1. Hylton pressed further with no real cause for concern and a dozen chances went by then a free kick on the edge of the box, Ghandi curled it into the top corner 3-1.
With the game fizzling out Hylton had most of the ball and Billy Harrison lobbed the keeper from 25 yards, great goal to end the game 4-1? Hylton should have been into double figures but will take the 3 points all the same, good performances all round.

HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES 1 V 2 WHEATLEY HILL WMC FC
As usual Wheatley Hill turned up and played their no nonsense well drilled football. Hartlepool however matched the visitors in difficult windy conditions and was guilty of missing chances before Wheatley Hill took the lead on 18 mins. Hartlepool had 5 chances before Hill took the lead the easiest being a 3v1 situations second before Wheatley Hill raced up the field to take the .ad with a well taken goal.  The second half saw a more committed display by the home team and the hard work paid off in the 60th minute when Joe Evans won the ball and lobbed it forward to Danny Cartwright. Cartwright controlled it well and smashed the equaliser into the corner of Hills MOM Russell Blenkinsopp’s net. Hartlepool should have pushed on but were hit with a sucker punch just three minutes later when they failed to challenge in midfield and the ball ended up in the back of the net with a well taken goal. Both teams were evenly matched with Blenkinsopp pulling off a great block in the dying minutes to deny pool a point.

SATURDAY JANUARY 3RD 2015

SEDGEFIELD NETPark 2 v 4 WALLSEND TOWN
NETPark had a nightmare start with keeper Matt Smith leaving the field after 3mins with a nasty gash to the leg, John Shepherd volunteered to go in goal. First half there were equal chances for both team but the reason why Wallsend will win this league is their front two are both a handful and good finishers, they lead 0-2 at H/T NETPark had a great change to pull one back when Adam Strong was clean through on goal and was brought down, no card given, Lee Butterworth smashed the penalty against the bar. A good finish put Wallsend in a commanding lead 0-3, substitute Phil Bland pulled one back 1-3 which made NETPark push on. A quick breakaway made it 4 to Wallsend although Shepherd lost it in the sun (the low sun caused havoc for both teams all game) 1-4. Veteran Brian Fairhurst pulled one back from the spot late on 2-4 but it was too late for NETPark....... Full time 2-4

BIRTLEY TOWN 2 V 4 BISHOP AUCKLAND RESERVES
The game started bright for both teams and both sides created a couple of chances each. Bishop Auckland Reserves took the lead on 22' with a well worked goal. Both Birtley and Bishop Auckland created more chances with the better ones falling to Bishop Auckland but they failed to finish them and at half time it remained 0-1 to the visitors Bishop Auckland Reserves. After half time Bishop Auckland created a lot more chances but with some good goalkeeping from the Birtley FC keeper it remained 0-1 until the 52' when Bishop Auckland Reserves went 0-2, Birtley FC made it 1-2 when Jack Kelly scored. Bishop Auckland then went on to score on the 68' and 70'to make it 1-4. Both teams kept battling and played some great football and Birtley FC scored again on the 80' to make 2-4. Both teams went to hit the wood work and the matched finished 2-4 to Bishop Auckland Reserves. MOM for Birtley FC was Jack Kelly and Bishop Auckland Reserves Liam Bain.

WHEATLEY HILL WMC FC 5 V 3 CHESTER-LE-STREET WHITEHILL

Wheatley Hill then strolled into a 5-0 lead through Kyle Hammond and Nathan Stoker. The last 20 minutes Chester dominated and got 3 goals back through Steven McDonald 2 and Craig Mickle. It could have easily finished 5-5 but Wheatley Hill held out for the win.

AUCKLAND CHARITY CUP ROUND 3
COUNDON & LEEHOLME YOUTH FC 2 V 0 SHERBURN VILLAGE WMC FC
The game kicked off and Coundon quickly took the lead from a header by Ian Maddison. Coundon could not take advantage from this and Sherburn fought hard to equalise. There was end to end football when Paul Bailes scored a second goal just before half time. The second half saw both teams playing an even game which resulted in Coundon winning 2-0.
