BISHOP AUCKLAND RESERVES 3 V 1 SHILDON RESERVES

Bishop Auckland Reserves came out on top in this local derby cup fixture, beating their rivals 3-1 on the day in an entertaining game. The home side took the lead on 10 minutes as Lewis Rowell opened his account for the season after a clever Liam Bain corner kick. Alex Cantwell forced the Shildon keeper into a good save, before Liam Bain hit the post following a powerful run. Shildon did pull one back as a consolation with minutes to go, but it was Bishops that marched into the next round. Credit to both sides for an entertaining fixture!

HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES 7 V 2 FERRYHILL TOWN

Hartlepool took 3 points but made hard work of things against a Ferryhill side with the bare 11. Actually the visitors had to start with just 10 with one still travelling. The scoring was opened after 10 minutes when a Jake Larkin cross was headed home by centre forward Craig Shipley. Not long after Larkin made it 2 after a strong run, rounding the keeper and walking into the net. Ferryhill rallied bit a deflected 30 yarder from Sam Stallard increased the lead to 3. Sloppy defending and switching off enabled Ferryhill to pull one back, luckily for Hartlepool the livewire Lewis Murphy was on hand to race clear and slot home to make it 4-1. HT 4-1  The second half was more of the same, although Ferryhill seemed to get a second wind. Murphy was on hand to calm nerves and increases the lead with another calm finish. The game livened up with a bit of handbags following a strong challenge by Stallard, the referee handled it well and two yellows calmed the situation. Another lapse of concentration in defence allowed Ferryhill to score again before a late Joe Evans header and a Rhys Guy strike finished the scoring for 7-2. Best for Hartlepool was midfield maestro Ross Kidson.

WHEATLEY HILL WMC FC 1 V 0 BIRTLEY FC

The game started nicely with both teams very well organised and up for todays match. This left the Birtley players frustrated and the centre midfielder receiving a yellow card for a late challenge. EBCHESTER CONSETT RESERVES 0 V 2 HORSLEY HILL FC

In the early exchanges of the game it was Horsley Hill who was on top. They started brightly and were having the better of the play. Within the first 10 minutes they found themselves 1 up when Lucas broke the offside trap and found himself one on one with the goalkeeper. The forward kept his composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner. Horsley kept the pressure on after going 1 up and had another chance to put them further ahead but put the ball wide on this occasion. Ebchester started to pick up after this and the rest of the first half was fairly equal with no real chances to either side. Half Time and the away side 1 to the good. Second was a very equal half, neither team really creating too much in the way of chances and lacking real energy to take charge of the game. It was Horsley who got the all important second goal of the game; they nicked the ball in the middle of the field and broke quickly. They found themselves 3 on 2 and the forward poked the ball into the bottom corner for his and Horsley's second goal of the game. Ebchester had a good chance to grab one back soon after this when they found themselves 2 on 1 with the keeper but a good save prevented them scoring there 1 real chance. HYLTON SC 3 V 3 WALLSEND TOWN

Tonight Hylton host Wallsend who are yet to drop points in the league and they started the game the better team with Hylton finding it difficult to mark and pass wall send players on and getting caught in possession, Wallsend broke the deadlock after 20 minutes as the forward rounded the keeper, 0-1 Wallsend. This gave Hylton a huge lift and passed the ball well but couldn’t get the wing men into play with sharp closing down from Wallsend, at this point there was tackles a plenty and Hylton capitalised on a free kick which was floated to Luke morrow a glancing header hit the top corner. 1-1. HT 1-1 Second half would have been a very entertaining game for the neutral as both sides battled for possession it also lead the teams to play safe with long balls to the front men, then a long ball to Cassidy who was caught in the area! Penalty, Catchiside steps up 2-1. Wallsend kick off and a mistake from morrow let Wallsend in and the player made no mistake 2-2, Wallsend also went down to 10 men as a player had too much to say and was sent off for his second bookable offence. 2-2 Hylton did take advantage of this as mark curry on the left crossed the ball but it nestled into the bottom corner. Fluke 3-2, sorry mark. Wallsend used the long ball tactics at this point and gained a free kick 25 yards from goal. The Wallsend player wouldn’t be able to hit a sweeter shot if he tried, power drive to beat the keeper. 3-3 takes a bow son! Wallsend went down to 9 men with another second bookable offence 10 mins from time; Hylton put the pressure on but couldn’t find the goal needed. An enjoyable game from two good footballing sides, the cards shown were for back chat to the referee rather than malicious or deliberate tackles

Bishop Auckland worked hard and they were a well organised team with pace, but Hylton on the night were strong enough for the 3 points. Well done both teams, a pleasure to watch.

HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES 2 V 3 COUNDON & LEEHOLME YOUTH FC

Newly formed Hartlepool FC Res entertained table topping Coundon and Leeholm and although walked away with nothing can certainly hold their heads up high having lost a thrilling encounter 3-2. FC showed little nerves as they played some neat football. The back four worked really well against the sharp striking partnership of Coundon. It was FC that showed first with The Coundon defence struggling with the pace and strength of striker Carl O'Sullivan. It was the home side who went ahead when Elliott Beddow played Larkin in who crossed perfectly for O'Sullivan to head home. With shouts of keep it tight Coundon showed their experience and capitalised within a minute of the kick off to equalise and then pile the pressure on to nudge in front with 3 minute let of the half. FC Started the 2nd half with confidence and drew level when keeper Ryan Harrisskitt reacted first to launch a ball forward and Beddow and O'Sullivan linked up well for the striker to claim his second. Sam Stallard hit the post for FC from 25 yards but a penalty was awarded on the half hour that the FC keeper got his hand to but couldn't keep out. FC pressed on but couldn't find that elusive equaliser. O'Sullivan bagged two and MOM for FC while best for Coundon was Darren Simpson
