LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP ROUND 2
BISHOP AUCKLAND RESERVES 3 V 1 SHILDON RESERVES
Bishop Auckland Reserves came out on top in this local derby cup
fixture, beating their rivals 3-1 on the day in an entertaining game. The home
side took the lead on 10 minutes as Lewis Rowell opened his account for the
season after a clever Liam Bain corner kick. The lead was doubled a few minutes
later by Bain himself after he rounded the keeper following some neat interplay
from the home side team. It could have been worse for Shildon as Lewis Dunn
missed is header from a yard out, after some brilliant play from winger Shaun
Pickford. Shildon did test Craig Foster in goal from range, but he was equal to
the effort. The second half was an
entertaining affair with both sides having chances. The visitors could have
felt aggrieved as claims for a penalty were waved away after a mix up between
Rowell and Foster, but the result was rounded by the goal of the game as Lewis
Dunn showed neat feet before firing home with his left. Alex Cantwell forced
the Shildon keeper into a good save, before Liam Bain hit the post following a
powerful run. Shildon did pull one back as a consolation with minutes to go,
but it was Bishops that marched into the next round. Credit to both sides for
an entertaining fixture!
HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES 1 V 0 EBCHESTER CONSETT RESERVES
An average performance from both teams on the day with Pools just winning it after creating most chances. Both teams generally cancelled each other out with Pools going closest when hitting the post. Half time 0-0.
The second half started well with Pools hitting the bar twice and Ebchester not taking advantage of a chance across the face of goal. The deadlock was broken when Larkin broke down the left and cut in for Lewis Murphy to tap into an empty net. There were claims for offside but the goal stood
SHERBURN VILLAGE WMC FC 1 V 3 HYLTON SC
The first 14 mins was fairly even until a great strike from Sherburn’s
Scott Arnott flew into the low right hand corner of Hylton’s net to make it 1-0
the keeper stood no chance . 2mins later Sherburn should have been 2 up when a
cross by Scott Arnott was met by the right foot of Karl Hutchinson from 6yds
but just went over the bar. Hylton equalised on 22 when a 'questionable'
penalty decision was given. Which was converted by Hylton’s no 9 Martin Hope. The
half was end to end with great tackles and football being played all over the
pitch by both sides it ended 1-1. 2mins into the second half Hylton took the
lead with a great strike by Mark Catchiside from 25yds which sailed into the
top right hand side of Sherburn’s net 2-1. The game was still end to end both
teams putting on a great display of football. Hylton scored their 3rd on 75mins
by Liam Wooton. Sherburn didn't throw the towel in and the game was battled
hard by both teams right to the final whistle. Hylton came out winners in a
great game. Good luck to Hylton.
