HORSLEY HILL FC 2 V 2 HARTLEPOOL FC RESERVES

Horsley Hills winning home record came to an end when they were held to a 2-2 draw against a determined Hartlepool side. Hartlepool took the lead when the Hills keeper punched a lofted ball against the post for Lewis Murphy to pounce and score. The Hill then took control of the game and there passing football was a joy to watch. Deservedly the Hill equalised just before half time with a scorching 35 yard strike from centre forward Kyle Houshby. The second half saw both teams playing good attractive football. With 25 mins to go the Hill finished off some sustained pressure with a goal from MoM Frankie Hucks. Hartlepool pressed hard for an equaliser and just when the points looked to be in the bag for the Hill, Hartlepool grabbed a share of the spoils with an equaliser. Both managers agreed that the football played by both young sides was a credit to the league

WASHINGTON AGED PEOPLES TROPHY ROUND 2

BISHOP AUCKLAND RESERVES 8 V 2 FERRYHILL TOWN
In a competitive game, Bishop Auckland Reserves progressed to the next round with a comprehensive victory. Ferryhill did take an early lead, but Bishops came back strong with a hatrick from Lewis Dunn, two from Liam Bain and singles from Alex Cantwell, Connor McEvoy and Jordan Maughan. Man of the match was without doubt the Ferryhill Goalkeeper, who made a string of saves to keep it 8-2.

SHILDON RESERVES 4 V 0 SHERBURN VILLAGE WMC FC
A great team performance from the home team as Shildon run out 4 0 winners in round two of the Washington aged people's trophy. The home team started well and went in front courtesy of Shildon man of the match Joe Kerry. Sherburn then hit the bar with a stunning 35 yard effort from their man of the match Joe Simpson. The home team went two up soon after though with Cameron Wilkinson capping a fine game with his first goal for the club. Joe Kerry added a second before half time and at this time Shildon was rampant.  Sherburn responded well to some advice from the manager at half time but Shildon were stubborn in defence with Hayes and race dominating, two new fullbacks Dartnell and Thompson kept any threat from the flanks under control. Stephen Clifford then came off the bench to add a fourth for the home side and they were home and hosed. This was a good game from two teams who tried to play football on a good surface.

DURHAM COUNTY FA TROPHY ROUND 2

SEDGEFIELD NETPark FC 4 v 2 COUNDON & LEEHOLME YOUTH FC
Avery competitive with both teams having very few chances in the first half. Coundon shading the better chances, HT 0-0...... The game came to life when Brian Fairhurst capitalised on a defensive mistake to put Sedgefield 1-0 up. Fairhurst then hit the post, shortly after first Coundon were awarded a weak penalty 1-1(Bailsy) then Sedgefield were 2-1(Fairhurst). The game really opened up but Fairhurst completed his hat-trick on 70, 3-1. Coundon came back strong and pulled one back on 75mins 3-2, Sedgefield defended well and after 85mins put the game to bed with a fast breakaway ending with Marcus Brown been chopped down, up popped veteran Brian Fairhurst to cap off a great performance against his old club and finished well to put Sedgefield into the semi-final, FT 4-2

MURTON AFC 0 V 6 WHICKHAM SC
Murton were outclassed from start to finish by a Whickham team who showed their league superiority with some very good football. Going in 1-0 up at half time Whickham came out in the second half and quickly took the game away from Murton. Special mention to Murtons keeper Swinburne who was outstanding making a number of quality saves including a penalty save. Final score Murton 0 Whickham 6.

HYLTON SC 1 V 7 GATESHEAD RUTHERFORD
Hylton played a well organised Gateshead Rutherford for the northern alliance league in the quarters of the county cup, the biggest test. Hylton started the brightest and dominated the first 20 minutes of the game and found them 1-0 up from a Stephen moody goal. It seemed as though Rutherford had extra men on the field as they turned up the heat and scored a dubious penalty 1-1. After that Hylton died and Rutherford took control of the game, Hylton tried hard to play but the opposition were just too well organised for Hylton and they strolled to an impressive 1-7 win. Hylton did not give a fair reflection of them on the day and the boys are disappointed, but life goes on and Hylton will be back next year with more experience and fight.

Good luck to Rutherford who worked hard for the full 90 minutes
